SIMPLE WAYS IN MASTERING AND ENHANCING ENGLISH

English is learnt by people in different ages in all over the world lately. In some countries, parents school their children in several institutions that provide English as a plus. Moreover, they enrolled their sons and daughters to the best English courses. It indicates that this international language is one of the primary needs of human life besides house, foods, fashions, house stuffs, styles, happiness, etc.
Their reason why they do as the writer explained before is the parents are worry about their kids’ future. They think that if their children cannot master English, they will face some bad conditions. They are they cannot compete in getting the work, they cannot comprehend the information listed in many mass medias, they illiterate with the English written form, they cannot operate machines, enhancements, instruments used English inside.
The first reason of the parents who are afraid if their children cannot understand English is interesting to be explained in detail. It tells that the parents will not the children are difficult to get the job.  They are aware that getting the work is difficult enough in recent era. The candidates of workers must have some abilities. The requirements of the best employee based on the some owners of the company are they who can speak and write English well. Many companies or work searching committee sentences that the people who fond of working must have high scores in TOEFL or TOEIC nowadays. TOEFL means Test of English as a foreign Language and TOEIC means Test of English for International Communication. The people who have joined these tests must have certificates with inserted scores. As higher as the score gotten, as fast as they work in company that notices someone English skills.
The others reasons of the parents why they are afraid if the children do not know English are understandable reasons relating to the development of technology. The parents won’t see the children cannot appreciate the information of many things written in English provided in mass medias. In addition, many tools have been using English lately, so the children are hoped to be able to operate and repair it.
To avoid the bad effects explained earlier, the government of Indonesia “obliges” the students master English both spoken and written. One of the efforts to connect it, the Ministry of Education in this country has revised English curriculum in many times for elementary school up to university level students. The curriculums known by 1994 curriculum, competency based curriculum, and the newest is curriculum 2013. These curriculums purpose to help the students to understand and comprehend English easily. Furthermore, it always sends teachers and experts to go abroad to absorb the teaching and learning process in other countries. The other ways are strengthening the rules of the past examination, making English as local subjects in Elementary schools, giving fund and facilities to non formal English education, and many other efforts that has relation with improving the quality of students’ English skills.
In contradictory, based on the analyses and the experience of the writer, the government efforts mentioned above haven’t met success yet. It can be seen in the first English class that being taught by the writer. They commonly come from the fresh graduation of senior high school students and they must be able to master English based on the government point of view. When he asked the questions, “how long have you been studying English?”, some of the students answer that they have been studying English for 9 years. The remaining are 12 years. Then he gives other questions, “Can you speak and write English well?” Almost students in his class give “quite” answer. Quite means “NO”
He writes some factors why they still cannot unite with English whereas they study it at least 12 years. The factors obtained from the students themselves. They said that the following factors influences why they do not understand English; the laziness, habitual, environment support, the style teaching of their English tutor, confidences, English is not their purpose.
This condition inspires the writer to share the simple ways if someone want to master English. Those simple ways are 1. practice, 2. practice and the last is practice. Although this idea has same alphabets but it has great influence to people in enhancing English.
The first practice means the words that are always spoken and heard repeatedly before can be guessed easily. For example, when he asked to his students, “what is pintu in English?” They answer “door” instantly. Same as when the writer questions them, “ What is Jendela in English? They can translate it fast. It describes that some words that is always practiced or repeated can be known even without thinking first. In contradictory, when the writer asks the meaning of Keriput, Gerimis, berkelap-kelip, they confuse to answer it because those words are seldom to be practiced.

The second practice goes to the habitual that is always practiced. The writer thinks that everybody in school ages knows and can tell the five items of Pancasila without thinking hard. It is because it usually mentioned in flag ceremony even once a week. The other condition is moslem always read Yasin verse in holy Qur’an. They can remember this verse one by one although they read at least once a week (Thursday night).
The last as the third practice can be applied on the condition. For example, someone is studying and the electricity is extinct in his home. When it occurs, he is in bedroom. He decides to go to kitchen to find some enlightening things, such as match or other enlightens tools. On the way to go kitchen, the writers guess he can imagine and predict the way to go kitchen from his bedroom without crashing stuffs. It happens because he has seen many times the location of each stuff in his home. The writer predicts that this cannot be achieved by someone doing the same if he is the new people or stranger of one home.
As the conclusion, the writer believes that something that is always practiced many times or repeatedly can drive people to comprehend something easily.  The same as English, if English is always practiced every day, it will be understood soon by someone. Khalifah Ali bin Abi Thalib said, “ You won’t be expert of science, if you don’t read the book at least 40 times”.
