CAUSATIVES
Causatives are main verb that cause people or
machines to do things or cause things to change. There are five kinds of
causative in English, namely, have, make,
get, help, and let, ask.
A. Causative
HAVE
1. SUBJECT +
HAVE + SOMEONE + VERB WORD
She had me type a letter

have him go there alone
My uncle has her wash cloth
His teacher will
have them do the exercises
2. SUBJECT
+ HAVE
+ SOMETHING + PARTICIPLE
I have this

the task done at home

B. Causative
MAKE
1. SUBJECT + MAKE
+ SOMEONE + VERB WORD
He made us type the
task
I make him send the letter
Dr. Kurt made the patients take medicine
She makes him park her car
2. SUBJECT + MAKE + SOMETHING + VERB WORD
I made the dishwasher run
last night
They make the
machine work all the time
She makes the
bell ring
loudly

C. Causative
GET
1. SUBJECT + GET + SOMEONE
+ INFINITIVE
She got me
to send her letter
We get her to go
with us
They will get him to fix
